In conjunction with Fox Communities Credit Union, the SCORE Fox Cities chapter is celebrating Small Business week and their 40th anniversary! As the economy is turning up and the skilled labor market tightening, it’s time to pause and honor small business owners who have worked hard to establish themselves and serve the community. Feature small businesses will be:
Tom and Holly Boettcher have created a charming vineyard in Hortonville WI. In the fall of 2011, Tom and Holly purchased 13 acres of land in the township of Hortonia. An 1800’s dairy barn was renovated into a unique tasting room, winery and event venue. Along with year round events, visitors can enjoy a glass of wine as they walk through Holly’s Wine Garden of meticulously landscaped flowers and plants enjoying summer’s birds and butterflies. Tom started making wine as a hobby in their home and went on to study viticulture & enology through the University of Missouri.
Appleton Tutoring Services LLC
Starting at the age of seven, Hamid Almozaffar learned the discipline of Judo so instructing became second nature. Hamid started tutoring students for the ACT exam as a hobby while working full time in the corporate world. This tutoring hobby grew organically through word of mouth and turned into a second job. During the winter of 2014, he had to make a decision- either continue working in the traditional roles we've all imagined during our youth and quit tutoring or continue supporting the success of our future. In January of 2015, a passion flourished into a business. Appleton Tutoring Service has grown from 1 employee to 6 tutors. While still focused on ACT prep, they also do subject specific tutoring for K-12th grade in math, reading and writing.
